Change in E-Z Borrow Loan Period

Through participation in the E-Z Borrow network, the Penn community has access to books from over 60 academic libraries in Pennsylvania and nearby states. Take note of this change in policy: E-Z Borrow partners have agreed to extend the loan period for E-Z Borrow materials to 6 weeks with a single 6 week renewal.  In the past, these loans went out to our patrons for 4 weeks with a single 4 week renewal.  In the long run, this will make things much simpler for our circulation desks since it means that the E-Z Borrow loan period is now the same as the one for BorrowDirect.  (BorrowDirect is the inter-library loan service exclusive to Penn, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Yale, and the Center for Research Libraries.)

In the short run, it will mean that patrons trying to renew E-Z Borrow books that they’ve recently charged out may have trouble renewing online. It will take about 4 weeks for all of the patrons that have E-Z Borrow books charged under the old rules to either return or renew them.  If you are experiencing difficulty with a renewal or have any questions about the transition, the circulation staff will be happy to assist you.
